BII Invests in Futuro+

Futuro Media Group, founded by award-winning journalist Maria Hinojosa in 2010, is a nonprofit newsroom and multimedia organization committed to telling stories that center Latino/a, Black, Indigenous, and immigrant communities. From the Peabody-winning Latino USA to the Pulitzer Prize–winning Suave, Futuro has built a national reputation for excellence in journalism that uplifts voices too often left out of mainstream media.

BII first invested in Futuro Media in 2020 to help launch Futuro Studios, a new Pulitzer Prize-winning podcast and original programming studio from Futuro Media, committed to uplifting voices, stories and perspectives that have been historically overlooked in the world of audio. BII’s support was a game-changer.

Now, BII is proud to partner with Futuro for a second time— to seed Futuro+, their first membership-based service. As VP of Administration and Operations Yolanda Moore shares, “Through Futuro+, we will be able to create and promote content that will be completely owned and operated internally. Instead of relying on market conditions to determine what we produce, we will be supported by our audience and our fans who are invested in our work and most importantly, our mission.”

Futuro+ marks a bold step toward sustainability and self-determination in media. With community support at the center, Futuro is ensuring that the stories they tell remain independent, authentic, and deeply rooted in the people they serve.
