Boston Impact Initiative (BII) believes that equitable access to information is inseparable from our mission of economic justice. Everyone who visits our website should be able to engage with our content, apply for support, and connect with our work — regardless of ability, device, or technology. We are committed to making our digital platforms welcoming and barrier-free for all.
1. Our Commitment
We are actively working to ensure that our website complies with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA, a globally recognized standard for web accessibility developed by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). This standard is also consistent with accessibility expectations for federally supported programs, including those operated by Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFIs) receiving U.S. Treasury funding.
Our goal is to make the BII Site:

- Easy to navigate, with consistent structure, clear headings, and descriptive link labeling
2. Accessibility Features
To support accessible user experiences, we have taken the following steps:
- Semantic HTML structure for better screen reader interpretation
- Logical heading and content hierarchy
- Alt text for all meaningful images and graphics
- Keyboard-friendly navigation across menus, forms, and links
- High-contrast text and background combinations
- Descriptive link text that avoids generic labels like “click here”
- Avoidance of flashing or blinking content that could trigger photosensitive responses
We also strive to ensure that downloadable PDFs and documents are tagged for accessibility wherever possible.
3. Ongoing Efforts
Digital accessibility is a continuous practice, not a one-time checklist. BII is committed to:
- Conducting periodic accessibility audits using both automated and manual review tools
- Training staff on accessible content creation and design practices
- Addressing any reported barriers promptly
- Building accessibility into new features and pages from the start
We recognize that some third-party tools or platforms embedded in our Site, such as event registration, donation processing, or investment portals, are not fully under our control. We actively advocate for accessibility compliance in all of our vendor relationships and will assist users in navigating those tools when needed.
