Brian Mbuya is an Impact Investing Associate at Boston Impact Initiative. Originally from Kenya, he brings about four years of experience across private credit, venture capital, equity research, and investment banking. Brian began his career as an equity research intern, developing a strong foundation in financial analysis, valuation, and investment evaluation. He later transitioned into private markets and impact investing, working across venture capital and private credit roles in emerging markets. Before joining BII, he worked at Samawati Capital Partners, where he supported the deployment of over $10 million in senior secured private credit investments. His work spanned the full investment lifecycle, including origination, screening, financial modeling, structuring transactions, drafting investment memos, conducting due diligence, and portfolio monitoring.
He is particularly drawn to impact investing, where he finds fulfillment in partnering with mission-driven entrepreneurs and businesses that are creating meaningful social and economic change in underserved communities. Brian holds a Master of Science in Finance from Babson College and a Bachelor of Science in Finance from The Cooperative University of Kenya. He has passed CFA Level I and II and is currently registered for the CFA Level III exam.
