Surdna Foundation

BII hosted a series of interactive workshops for program and investment staff of a national foundation that wanted to learn how to deploy integrated capital to advance the solidarity economy. The objective was to understand how to make wise use of grants, recoverable grants and loan guarantees — alongside debt and equity investments — to support economic recovery efforts.

The foundation also wanted to explore its relationship to power and how to engage the communities it serves in participatory decision-making around the allocation of capital. BII introduced the foundation’s team to the Impact Equalizer framework, led them through a process of redefining risk and return, and gave them an opportunity to practice their new skills through Integrated Capital Card Games.
