Recap: BII National Fund Manager Cohort Convening

Past Events

The National Fund Manager Cohort Convening, which took place in Boston, November 6-8, 2024, brought together 30 diverse fund managers from across North America and Indigenous lands for three days of learning, community and inspiration.

It was particularly meaningful to gather so soon after the election, and collectively reaffirm our shared commitment to building a more equitable and sustainable economy.

Here’s a look at the program:

  • On Wednesday we explored Roxbury’s Nubian Square with Live Like A Local, and toured the impressive CommonWealth Kitchen in Dorchester. We then were treated to a meet and greet with portfolio company Hillside Harvest, which makes Caribbean-inspired sauces and condiments.
  • We spent Thursday at the Bolling Building in Roxbury for a day of cohort-led learning. There were sessions on The Patterns and Practices of Liberatory Economics along with a series of breakout groups on various topics like Leveraging the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund (GGRF) for Climate Justice and Telling our own Stories and Building our Collective Movement.
  • On Friday, BII unveiled the draft of the State of the Cohort report, which highlights the impact of our fund manager program along with opportunities to build a thriving ecosystem of community-based funds. We wrapped up the convening with an update on the Fearless Fund case and a panel discussion on the impact funding landscape.

We’re thankful for everyone who took the time to attend, and hope that the connections and insights they gained will help fuel their work in the coming months.
